Art show opening for Whitney Ramage’s ‘Daphne in Gold’.
About:
Daphne in Gold began in Wyoming at Jentel Artist Residency situated in the high desert where the veil between worlds feels palpably thin. Throughout the month-long residency the artist developed a relationship with a carcass nestled among the rocks and scrub brush; visiting her daily and documenting her transformation. These painted photo prints are a result of that ongoing relationship as well as our collective relationship to death and transcendence.
Whitney Ramage is an interdisciplinary visual artist, curator, and arts organizer based between Brooklyn, New York and rural Vermont. Her work examines those moments when clouds part and we find ourselves staring down at the tenuousness of all that is, confronting the breathtaking fragility of all the structures that hold us in place. Our bodies are fragile, democracies are fragile, families are fragile, ecosystems are fragile. We are reminded that permanence is an illusion, and the long chain of accidents that brought us into being can just as easily wash us away.
